Recent Truck Accident Statistics Underscore the Safety Issues Facing Nation’s Drivers

August 3, 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a report that in excess of 85,000 individuals were involved in truck accidents in 2011 alone.

Out of these individuals, approximately 3,700 people died as a result of their involvement in a truck accident.

Reasons for Truck Accidents

Due to the size and power of commercial trucks, even crashes in which the vehicles are moving slowly can be fatal.

Serious truck accidents can occur due to bumper guards that were poorly constructed. Faulty equipment may be the cause of other accidents. Driver error can lead to truck accidents, such as when the driver is fatigued, impaired or trained in an insufficient manner. Uneven weight loads can lead to other problems.

Costs of Truck Accidents

Individuals who survive truck accidents may suffer from a variety of devastating injuries, including spinal cord injuries, paralysis, permanent disability, amputation and fractures. These individuals may suffer from a reduced quality of life. They also may have trouble meeting their financial obligations.

The large cost associated with truck accidents is a primary reason why truck accident victims and their families should retain the services of a skilled personal injury attorney who can review the facts and individual circumstances of a case.
